These are common mistakes that you propely already know but you may not know how to fix them. If you correct those mistakes, you are going to make your windows bigger and invite more light to enter room and the most important point is that it will make your ceiling higher and those are all pretty positive things.

#1: Mistake: Curtain Rod is Too Low
You proberly already know this ,but the width and height that you hang your curtain rod is gonna to make all the difference in the final look. Raising your curtain rod will draw the eye up naturally.
It will make your curtains taller and you will give the illusion that you have high ceilings. Therefore the general rule in terms of what hight to hang your rod is about half way to two-thirds up between the top of your window fream and your ceiling.
If you have crown moldings, you can hang it three-forth of an inch below your crown molding. If you still want more impact, keep in mind that you have a lot of space between the top of the window frame and the underside of crown molding or the ceiling. It might look a little weird to hang your rod so close to the molding. Therefore, use your own discretion and see works best.
#2: Mistake: Curtain Rod is Too Narrow
When your curtains are open, there are gonna be gathered in front of the wall that is on side of your window and then just the edges of there of your drapes are gonna overlap the edges of your window. This will visually make it appear as if you have large windows than you do.
If your rod is too narrow and your drapes hang in front of your window,it is going to block the sunlight and the window is actually will look much smaller.
Ideally you want to make sure that your rod is about 4 to 6 inches wider than outer fream of your window will make sure that you are not suffocating by having a rod that is too narrow.
#3: Mistake: Curtain Width Not Enough
This means is when your curtains are open or closed, they just don't look luxurious and so the way you can fix them. You can buy curtain panels that are one and a half times to two times the width of your windows.
For example, if you have 4 foot window, you will get a panel that is six to eight feet wide. This will ensure that when your curtain are open or closed, and they will provide a nice gathered look. They will look awesome and wonderful.
#4: Mistake: Don't Go Too Short
As we all know, curtain panel length that interior designers revert to , and they are called the kiss, the puddle, the break puddle and the float.
Kiss the floor
kiss the floor is probably the hardest method to pull off,but it also looks the most tailored and custom. If your curtain kiss the floor, they literally hovering perfectly on the surface of the floor. To accomplish this, you need to measure the exact distance from the top of the curtain to the floor.
Tips:You can hang the curtain on the rod and mark a pin them while they are already hanging.
The puddle length
The puddle length is so far by the most dramtic of all the ways to hang curtains and it's one that the most tedious to keep clean to achive the puddling effect. Add extra 2 to 4 inches of length beyond the floor.
The break puddle length
The break puddle length is between kissing the floor length and puddle length. The break puddle length doesn't hang stright like it does kissing the floor or the floating method. The break pads is a little bit of interest the idea is that you add an extra half inch to one inch beyond the floor.
If you don't like the idea of your curtains touching the ground at all, then you can hang them just half an inch above the floor, this is called floating length curtains. This will provide extremly clean look although it is slightly less formal. Your curtains should hang perfectly stright with this method. All in all, the soulation to hanging curtains in the following picture described;
Then, maybe you ask,What length curtain do I need?
First and formost I would suggest looking at the function of your room. Typically, it's a formal room you can go be a lit longer with your curtains and if it's informal room, you tend to want to go a bit shorter.
For our rooms obviously tend to have a little less traffic, you can go maybe for the puddle option. Whereas bedrooms are informal, you probably want to avoid a long curtains unless you are going for a super romantic look and then you may be choose puddle option as well. Living rooms tend to be combination of formal and informal ,you could probably go for the float or for the kiss length.
