One of the most significant investments that homeowners make inside their homes is in their window coverings.
If you are a new homeowner or looking to make some home renos, there's no doubt you are looking at curtains and pleated curtain headings to help you complete the look.
What Are Curtain Headings?
If you think all pleated curtains are the same, we encourage you to look closer. You can choose from many styles of curtains and curtain headers when completing the look of their space.
Knowing what to choose from can help you pick the perfect pairing and ensure you will be pleased with the resulting effect for years to come.
A curtain heading is that top piece of the curtain that runs horizontally over the top of the window and attaches to a curtain track or rod. And, they are popular for many reasons. But many customers don't understand curtain headings or how they can completely transform a space.
Curtain headers provide the following benefits to your space:
Some curtain header styles cover the curtain rod or track for a more appealing and seamless look
Provides a more defined start and end to the curtains
Helps tie the look of the curtains together, making it look more like one system vs. separate panels of fabric
Provides a neat finish for a reasonable cost
Why Do Curtains Need Headings?
The curtain heading is the first thing to consider when looking at curtains or draperies for your space. Curtain headings create a unique look and use a different amount of fabric than the curtains. The heading you select will determine how the fabric hangs and guides the room's overall atmosphere.
But just like there are many options for your curtains, all curtain headings are not the same.
4 Additional Curtain Header Styles for You to Consider
As we have said, not all curtains are the same. To that end, nor are all curtain header styles. At Curtarra, we typically offer three main styles of curtain headings:
Grommet Top
Rod Pocket
Pinch Pleat - double
Pinch Pleat - triple
But we know that some of our customers might prefer a different look. Three of the most common alternatives to what we offer are the goblet pleat, pencil pleat, tailored pleat, and ripple fold. Here is what you should know about each of these styles.
1. Goblet Pleat
Goblet pleats look very similar to pinch pleat curtains. They are tucked, folded, and open at the top to provide a look similar to a wineglass or goblet. These curtains can be hung from a track or pole with the header to match.
Customers often ask about the goblet pleat if they are looking to fill a modern and elegant space. We often recommend that customers select an exquisite velvet or chenille fabric for the goblet pleat.
2. Pencil Pleat
Homeowners can hang pencil pleat curtains from curtain poles or curtain tracks. The pencil pleat is made from unflinchingly gathered folds of fabric that create a semi-cylindrical heading that creates the appearance of several vertical pencils. The material of the curtains falls elegantly to the floor from the close pleats of the header.
This header style is trendy for casual and informal spaces but can easily suit all decors and tastes. Cotton satin fabric is a popular choice for those who like the pencil pleat look.
3. Tailored Pleat
This heading looks very similar to the pinch pleat. However, in this case, the pleat begins at the top of the fabric and falls from there. Commonly referred to as the Euro pleat, many homeowners and business owners like this design for its stylish but less pretentious look.
For a natural look, we recommend a linen or linen blend for the tailored pleat.
4. Ripple Fold
The ripple fold creates a modern, sleek look and is best suited for large rooms with a more modern design and feel. This look comprises a single panel with snaps sewn into the top hem. The pleat of the drape is created by the way the snaps connect with the hardware. The ripple fold ultimately creates a wave pattern.
Though the ripple fold has historically been used in commercial settings, it has become increasingly popular for residential use in recent years. The ripple fold works well with all fabrics.
